GROUP TEAM 

MICHELE PINELLI

Graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bologna in 1997, he obtained the title of PhD in 2001. Since 2021 he has been Full Professor of Fluid Machines at the Department of Engineering of the University of Ferrara.

From 2018 to 2021 he was Pro-Rector Delegate to the Third Mission of the University of Ferrara. His research activity is documented by more than 240 scientific articles published mainly in international journals and international congresses. 

He is the scientific director of several international research collaborations, including Imperial College London and St. John's College of the University of Oxford.

Dr. Alessio Suman is a research assistant at University of Ferrara. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Ferrara. Dr. Suman obtained his PhD at the University of Ferrara in 2014. 

His main research activity deals with the performance degradation of gas turbine. In addition, he is involved in numerical simulations of energy systems and volumetric displacement machine. He has authored numerous publications about energy systems and turbomachinery related topics. 

His main research interests include the analysis of the particle-surface interaction and numerical simulation of gas turbine aerodynamics and performance losses.

NICOLA ZANINI

Graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ferrara in 2020, after a brief post-graduate period in industry, since 2021 he has been a PhD student in Engineering Sciences at the Department of Engineering of the University of Ferrara. 

His research activity is focused on the analysis and prediction of the performance of centrifugal pumps to handle unconventional fluids, especially through experimental tests. Other topics of interest are degradation phenomena of turbomachinery related to the ingestion of micro-sized particles (deposition, erosion). 

His research activity is collected in scientific articles published mainly in international journals and in national and international conferences.

MATTIA PIOVAN

Graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ferrara in 2022, since the same year he has been a PhD student in Engineering Sciences at the Department of Engineering of the University of Ferrara. 

His research activity is focused on the development of innovative methodologies for predicting and reducing the noise emitted by fans, mainly using an open-source numerical approach. Another topic of interest is the development of design criteria for high-efficiency turbomachinery. 

His research activity is collected in scientific articles presented at national and international conferences and published in the sector scientific journals.

NICOLA ALDI

Graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ferrara in 2012. He attended the PhD course in Engineering Science at the University of Ferrara, obtaining the title of PhD in 2017. 

His research activity has focused on the analysis and prediction of performance degradation of gas turbines by means of numerical simulation. He has co-authored numerous scientific articles published mainly in international journals and in national and international conferences. 

Since 2021 he has been a research consultant at the Engineering Department of the University of Ferrara. His activity is focused on the fluid-dynamic design and CFD analysis of turbomachinery.
