TURBOMACHINERY RESEARCH GROUP - FERRARA
ACTIVITIES
Research
TurboFe is involved in a number of very focused topics, which are briefly outlined below:
Numerical study of the effect of the deterioration, such as deposition (fouling) and erosion, on the performance of gas turbine components such as compressors and turbines;
Experimental campaign by means of dedicated test rigs for the study and the analysis of the deposition of solid particles on target surfaces and on the blades of a small scale axial compressor;
Experimentation on pumps with special fluids (Non-Newtonian, Slurries, High Viscosity)
Design and analysis of volumetric machines (pumps, scroll compressors) for automotive applications
Design and analysis of axial and centrifugal fan for automotive applications
Shape Memory Alloys for turbomachinery applications
Measurements techniques in turbo and fluid machinery applications
Numerical investigation and development of numerical techniques for the simulation of fluid machinery and thermal devices used in Organic Rankine Cycles;
Academic collaborations
TurboFe actively collaborates with several world class academic institutions, both at a national and at an international level, focusing on the topics relevant for its research and collaboration activity:
Industrial collaborations and Technology Transfer
A part of TurboFe activity is devoted to industrial collaboration and technology transfer. These are performed either on a collaborative basis or by means of funded research contracts. A number of collaborations are carried out within the framework of public grants at a national and regional level.
