Design of turbomachinery and fluid machinery
The group of TurboFe has gained a 20+ years experience in the the design of turbomachinery. During the years, it has been working with a wide number of industries asking for the design of case-specific machines. In particular, the following type of turbomachinery has been designed:
Centrifugal pumps for automotive application (water cooling circuit)
Centrifugal pumps for slurries and solid handling fluids
Centrifugal pumps (up to 1 MW) for the processing of tomato paste (Non-Newtonian fluid)
Axial pumps for the handling liquid hexane installed in polymer batch reactors
Centrifugal fans for agricultural applications (mist sprayer)
Centrifugal fans for ceramic tile cooling
Mixed-flow fans for automotive applications (radiator)
Axial fans for snow guns
Radial turbine for energy harvesting in pressurized gas pipeline
In recent years, the group has also gained experience in the design of volumetric machinery. In particular, a methodology for the design of scroll machine has been developed and applied to an automotive application.
CFD
The group of TurboFe can provide support for the development of numerical studies based on a CFD approach. The area of expertise of the group is particularly devoted to:
Turbomachinery (pumps, fans, blowers, compressors, turbines)
Fluid machinery (volumetric, positive displacement, etc.)
Heat exchangers
Industrial problems (circuits, valves, plants, etc.)
However, we can tackle any problem involving a fluid dynamic simulation. The goal of our support is the in-depth study of the specific problem finalized to the improvement of the performance and to the optimization of the device/geometry under investigation.
Measurement and testing
TurboFe has acquired a long-standing experience in the development of experimental test rigs in the field of fluid dynamics thanks to its research activity. Now, it is able to provide consultancy which ranges from the proof of concept to the implementation of customized test rigs. The implementation includes the choice of the instrumentation, the design and the commissioning of the circuit, the control and acquisition software, both on commercial and on open-source platforms.
